Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 5 - 10/05/21

This week in English, we started looking at the book 'Traction Man'. In groups, Yellow class acted out different scenes from the story and then performed their scenes to the rest of the class. Their performances were brilliant! We then used speech marks in our writing to write about what our characters were saying in our scene from the story. Yellow class then wrote about their favourite part of the story, who their favourite character was and which part they thought was the funniest. We used 'because' in our sentences to explain why. We have also been looking at descriptive writing and we discussed using different adjectives to describe the setting of the story. Yellow class came up with some fantastic adjectives and wrote some brilliant descriptive sentences!

In maths this week, we have been continuing our learning about multiplication. We started the week by making arrays practically using counters and cubes for different number sentences and we used the language of 'groups of' to help us. We then moved on to drawing arrays with groups of 2 e.g. 3 x 2.

In topic this week we have been thinking about the different ways we could create our own pop art. We have thought about whether paint, pens, crayons or pencils would be best medium to use to create work that stands out.

Next week:

In English, we are writing descriptions of the characters from Traction Man. In maths, we will continue to look at arrays and how we can draw and use these when learning about multiplication. We will use the language of 'groups of' to help us when using arrays. We also have an exciting production on Tuesday of the Wizard of Oz!

Home learning:

We have put together some activities for home learning. These activities will be posted on Google classroom to complete during the course of the week. This week, the focus is on maths and skip counting and there are some videos and games for the children to watch and have a go at.
