Week 9 9.11.20

This week Blue Class have been learning:

English

  • We focused on the fable ‘The town mouse and the country mouse’. We read the story together, ordered the events and wrote captions to describe the beginning, middle and end.
  • We described the setting of either the town or the country, using expanded noun phrases.
  • We discussed our preferences for towns or countryside and explained our reasons why. We then wrote letters persuading our friends to agree with our opinions.
  • We edited our own writing; improving our spelling, handwriting, vocabulary and punctuation.

Maths

  • We practised repeated addition in preparation for learning how to multiply. We drew pictures using dots to show each part of the number sentence.
  • We looked at the x symbol and its meaning.
  • We used arrays to solve multiplication number sentences.
  • We wrote number sentences to match different arrays.

Topic

  • We had special visitors from the Fire Service come on Tuesday to re-enact The Great Fire of London using our Tudor house models. We were very excited to see what happened, and also to learn about how to stay safe in the case of fire.
  • We looked at the county of Devon and compared it to London.
  • We identified the main human and physical features found in the town and the countryside.
  • We learned a few traditional folk songs with Ms Caperon.
