Outdoor Learning

Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood. We want to try and incorporate outdoor activities into our curriculum as much as possible and this includes regular Outdoor Classroom Days (OCDs).

Officially, there are two Outdoor Classroom days a year but, as we know, the benefits have of being outside are huge, our aim is to have one every month.

On these days, we are aiming to spend most of the day outdoors, working on a range of activities. In order for this to be as enjoyable and productive as possible, if you wish, your child can wear their own suitable clothes along with their school jumper/cardigan. Please can you ensure that your child has a coat and, ideally, a pair of wellington boots. If they do not have wellies then your child will be asked to put their trainers on. As this will be a regular part of our learning, it would be really helpful if your child has a pair of wellies. On Outdoor Classroom Days, please send wellies in, in a named carrier bag.

If you would like to help for part, or all, of an Outdoor Classroom Day, please let us know. We’d love to have some extra pairs of hands!
