Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 1: 7th September 2020

Welcome back to YEAR 1!! I am so excited to be working with Parrot Class again and taking them up to Year 1 and Purple Class.

This week we have been getting used to our new classroom. We have been mixing whole class learning which is something new with the familiarity of Active Learning time. The children have been brilliant and are settling into their new Year 1 life.

In English we have been writing an All About Me book, it is wonderful to see how the children have changed since last year and we look forward to doing it again at the end of the year to see how the children have changed and developed.

In Maths we have been recapping all the important Number skills including numerals, ordering, counting, adding and subtracting. They all did brilliantly remembering this important foundation skills and will be a great start to our Maths topic.

In Topic we have been look at the story 'Here We Are'. This book is about the world and being special which is a perfect start to the topic. We will be continuing with this book more next week. We took inspiration from this book and decided to look at the artist George Seurat and the style of Pointallism. In our sketchbooks we wrote about what we could see in the piece of art called 'The Seine from La Grande Jatte'. We then experimented with different tools to create the 'dot' effect. The children will be using their chosen tool next week in their own piece of work.

In Jigsaw we met our new jigsaw piece 'Jack' and we thought about how and where we feel safe. The children drew a picture in their new PSHE book and wrote a sentence.

I am so proud of the children this week with transition to the new expectations of Year 1 and the new classroom. I am so excited for the following year!
