Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 1: 6th January 2020

Happy New Year and welcome back to school. We have had a fantastic week and the children have really enjoyed being back in the usual routine of school.

Thank you for sending in their holiday photos, the children have loved sharing their holiday news and writing about their adventures. The pictures really help inspire the children and motivate them to write. We have been looking at forming a sentence and using finger spaces and punctuation to help make our writing really clear.

In Maths we have been looking at addition word problems. This is helping the children see the importance in adding and how they can use it to help them in everyday life. The children have enjoyed coming up with their own word problems although have struggled to use the question part of the problem. For example, "I have two chocolate bars and one sweet" and then needing help to say "How many have I got altogether?" Maybe try and come up with your own over the weekend, not forgetting the end sentence!

We had a brilliant assembly from Mad Science where the children observed experiments (some of which using fire). The children loved this and wanted to draw and talk about what they had learnt all afternoon. Some children were inspired to create their own experiment by looking at who could jump the furthest. We used a metre stick to measure the distance and some children began to record their findings. What a brilliant activity!

The children had their first visit to the library today. They have chosen a book to borrow and read at home. Please make sure their library book is in their bookbag every Friday so we can visit the library again and change their books. This is a book for you to read together and not a book they can read alone. We hope you enjoy your children's book choice.

Have a lovely weekend
