Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 4

This week in English, we began reading 'Pig Heart Boy' by Malorie Blackman. We started the week making predictions about the book, based on the front cover and blurb. We then used our five senses to write descriptive sentences about school, and concluded the week rewriting the opening chapter of the book. We were encouraged to use thesauruses and word banks to develop our choice of language.

In Maths, we explored the concepts of negative numbers and rounding. We used number lines to help us order negative numbers, and then went on to calculate the difference between temperatures. Towards the end of the week, we developed our understanding of rounding by completing a variety of problem solving activities. We enjoyed rocking out to the song 'We Will Round You', which I'm sure you can work out is based on the classic Queen song! Next week, we will be consolidating our understanding of how to multiply and divide by 10,100 and 1000, and will explore problems involving measures.

In Science, we began our new topic entitled 'Animals including Humans'. The first few sessions link nicely to our text in English as they focus on the heart and the circulatory system. In our first session, we shared our understanding of blood, and are looking forward to making blood smoothies soon! Photos to follow!
