Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 6: 12th October 2020

This week we followed the Jolly Postman on his next visit and learned about the story Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

In Literacy we acted out the story and we learnt about a freeze frame and thought about what the character might be thinking. We then sequenced the pictures and writing from the story in our books. We thought about adjectives to describe the characters from the story. On Friday we learnt about speech marks and how they might be used. Over the weekend children could be speech mark detectives and find them in their own reading book or a storybook you are reading to them.

In Maths we continued looking at regrouping and then linked this to addition. We did lots of practical work and now we are building up the children's independence to collect resources they may need to support them in their work if they are not on the table. On Friday we practised counting on using a number line. This is a very tricky skill and if you have a number line at home your child may want to practise counting on by jumping to answer a number sentence.

In Science we looked at reptiles, amphibians, fish, birds, insects and mammals and how we can sort them into these sets. There was a lots of information shared in this lesson but the children loved learning this more challenging words. We watched some of the animals on the BBC wildlife programmes. The flying frog was definitely our favourite. These clips are all available on youtube and are full of awe and wonder for our children. They do need pre-watching as some of the information is not all age-appropriate but watching them on mute still amazes the children.

This week we have focused on Computing and the children have worked in groups to create the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' on 2animate. I am amazed at the detail the children have included and look forward to the rest of the groups finishing next week.

Next week is our final week of Autumn 1!! How quickly is time going? We will be continuing our work on Goldilocks and the Three Bears and will be looking at changing aspects of the story before writing it.

We will also continue our work looking at artist Molly Rausch, who does amazing art work based on stamps.

We will be recapping our maths work this half term ensuring that children are able to recall the skills learnt and apply them to new questions.

Please remind your child to change their reading book. They can change their book any day (although Monday, Wednesday and Friday is preferable) and should be changing them twice or three times a week. They need to put the book in the red tray by the door as they come in.

Have a lovely weekend
