Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 4: 28.09.2020

This week Red class have been given their first 10 spellings to go home and practise. After school closure we feel it is best to give spellings surrounding children's Year 1 and 2 common exception words. If your child is confident in spelling these words please use the spelling books to practise using these words in sentences (to help understand the meaning). This is also a great opportunity for children to practise handwriting and punctuation at home, which are extremely important skills to continue to develop in Year 2!!!!!

I will post the spellings on the class page every week (please see below). The children will take home spellings every Friday and be tested on them the following Friday. Please make sure your child's spelling book is back in school on Fridays. Thank you for your continued support and please do not hesitate to ask any questions.

This weeks learning has been:

Maths

-The focus this week has been subtraction.

-We started the week by using a number line to find the difference between two numbers.

-Then Red class used their tens and ones as a strategy to solve the subtraction sums.

-We finished the week by looking at addition of three single digits and how we can use our 'think ten' to help us.

English

- Our grammar focus has continued to be using punctuation correctly to write a super sentence.

History

-Red class wrote a menu for a banquet for James I and learnt all about food during the Stuart era.

-Next Red class learnt about the monarchs during the Stuart era and created a timeline to show who ruled when.

- Finally we learnt about general Stuart life comparing rich and poor families.
