Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 3

This week began with assessments in reading and maths following a writing assessment last week.  The children were brilliant and completed all of the assessments on Monday which left the rest of the week for learning!

In History, we continued to look at sources and focused on understanding the difference between primary and secondary sources.  We looked at a range of both focusing on the Olympics and medicine in Ancient Greek times.

In Guided Reading, we have been reading biographies and learned about 3 inspirational women: Lilian Bader, Mae Jemison and Helen Sharman.  All of these women fought prejudice in their own way and demonstrated one of our core values in BUCKETLOADS: aspiration.

In English we wrote poems based on the brilliant clip of the racer snakes on David Attenborough's Planet Earth II.  It was wonderful to watch the children's expression as they watched the iguana fight for its life and escape the deluge of snakes!  They wrote and performed brilliant poetry in pairs and I was really impressed with how they incorporated a lot of the new vocabulary we have learnt this year.

In Maths we have been learning all about negative numbers:how to to add and subtract crossing the zero boundary and finding the difference between 2 numbers on a number line.
