This has been a great week of learning. In maths, the children have completed the unit on decimals and moved on to multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000. The class are now very good at showing what happens to a number when we multiply by 10, 100 or 1000 in a place value chart or using base 10 equipment. To begin with the children multiplied whole numbers before multiplying decimal numbers. Next week we will move on to dividing numbers, including decimals, by 10, 100 and 1000.
In English, we focused on grammar. We looked at identifying main and subordinate clauses and using coordinating and subordinating conjunctions. At the end of the week, children continued to write their explanation texts and attempted to use complex sentences within their writing.
In history, the children began to research the Ancient Greek Olympics. The children worked in pairs and were tasked with creating research questions around four different areas linked to the Olympics; for example, preparation.
In art this week the children sketched their self portraits. Using mirrors, they carefully studied their faces, considering the size and shape of their individual features.
