Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 4 - 23.11.20

In phonics this week we have learnt three new sounds, we introduced ‘w’, ‘x’, and ‘y’. We have been looking at words with these sounds in them for example wet, window and words, box, fix and exercise, and yogurt, year and yell. We have continued to practice the tricky words that we have learnt and we introduced the word ‘into’. We looked at how we can split this word into two parts to help us figure it out. As a class we sounded out the word ‘in’ and then the children noticed that they knew the word ‘to’ already and that when we put this together it made the word ‘into’. We had a discussion about the word ‘a’ and how if we are reading this in a sentence we say the letter name rather than the sound.

In maths this week we have been focussing on the number ‘six’. We watched the Numberblocks Series two episode. This as always can be found on Cbeebies and youtube for you to watch with your child. We were looking at different ways that we can represent and show this number. Each day the numbers had gotten mixed up again, and we had to circle all the pictures to show the number six! The children were very good at this!

This week we have also continued looking at the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children were introduced to speech bubbles and we explored what they look like, and how they are used. We even found some in some of the books that we have been reading each day, it was very exciting! Throughout the week the children have been beginning to write their own speech bubbles for the characters in The Three Little Pigs. The children were very good at thinking about what each character might say and then writing this using all the phonics sounds and words that they have learnt! The children have also been very creative making masks and puppets of the characters and using these to act out the story.

We also began making our reindeer for our classes Christmas hoop. This is a hoop that gets decorated by each class and then get put up in the lunch hall for all the children and staff in the school to see! Everyone has painted their reindeer brown and now we are adding all of their features, especially a big red nose!

Please find some letters in your child’s bag, one is about the elf run and the other is regarding your child’s part in the year group Nativity! Who else is excited for Christmas? I know I am!

I apologise for the lack of pictures this week I must have forgotten to take more! See everyone on Monday!!!!!
