Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 6: 7th October

This week we have been continuing our topic on Ourselves. Our focus this week was body parts.

We started off singing a favourite song 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes' and then made a list of all the different body parts we know. We played Simon Says to make sure we knew the names of all the different parts of their bodies. The children were then interested in our Skeleton. We learnt the names of some of our bones including skull, ribs, hip. We also learnt that children have more bones than adults which surprised us.

From the children's interests in the skeleton we used cardboard to print skeleton bones in our creative areas. They look fantastic! We also drew pictures of all the different parts of the body and an adult helped us write down some of the facts we had learnt.

After we had learnt the names of all the different parts of the body we tried making our own version of 'Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'. We are very proud of our version and you can see us performing it below. The words are as follows, Chin, hands, stomach, arms, stomach arms. Chin, hands, stomach, arms, stomach arms and legs and neck and lip and ankles. Chin, hands, stomach, arms, stomach arms.

In Maths we have been learning about height. The children were given a challenge in threes to get themselves into height order. They then had to use the words tall and short to talk about the different heights in their groups. We saw some great teamwork in order for the task to be successful.

Thank you for using the box to change your child's reading book on Tuesday and Fridays. Please make sure that the reading record is signed to show you have read with your child. If the book is not in the box we are unable to change them as you can imagine going through 31 bookbags takes away valuable time that should be spent with the children. Thank you for understanding.

Your children has also received their sound tag today. Please take to read the letter to see how these resource can be used effectively. The sounds must be said in their 'pure' form which is shown in the video on the homepage.

Have a lovely weekend
