This week we have started our Festivals and Celebrations topic for this half term!
We started this week by learning about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate Bonfire Night. We rewrote the story of what happened on 5th November in English and in history we thought about what Guy Fawkes might have used during that time. It was really interesting comparing the different objects and clothes from when he was alive to now.
We are now learning about Diwali and the story of Rama and Sita. We watched some videos to learn about how Diwali might be celebrated and we drew pictures and mind maps of all of the things that we learnt about.
In phonics, we have been looking at the 'ear' and 'air' sounds from phase 3 and learning about how these can represent different sounds such as the 'ear' sound in 'bear'. We have also learnt the split digraph 'e-e' from phase 5.
In maths, we have been looking at using the language of more than and less than and how we can find the difference between 2 numbers. We used lots of drawings and resources to help us work out the difference. We then applied what we had learnt to problems and learning how we could solve them.
In science this week, Yellow Class received a letter from Olaf! He explained that he knew lots about summer, but he didn't know anything about Autumn, so Yellow Class had to write letters back to Olaf to explain all about it! We talked about what we see, what we wear and what the weather is like.
We carried on with Pilates in PE this week. We did lots of stretching and using our core muscles!
Next week in Science we will be continuing to learn about animals by talking about pets! If you have any pets at home, it would be lovely if a photo could be sent to the class email so that we can use the pictures during our lesson. Thank you!
Have a lovely weekend Yellow Class!
