Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Home Learning

Children will be provided with a Home Learning Book in which to complete/stick their homework. This should be returned to school on a Wednesday and will be sent home on Friday.

Reading

Children need to to read to an adult at least five times a week and have it recorded in their Reading Record. Any comments about reading, understanding, new words etc. are welcomed. Please record when your child has finished reading their book and completed the quiz.

If children read independently at home, they can still record it in their Reading Record. Reading Records are checked daily and 'Check-up Day' is on Thursday. Pupils achieving a minimum of five signed reads, will be awarded House Points.

Spelling

Each week, children will be given a group of words that they need to learn. These will be stuck in a small book that is sent home and which needs to be returned to school every Thursday. The word list will also be uploaded to the website. In order to demonstrate understanding, each word needs to be written in a sentence. Ideally, pupils should be practising every night. There will also be a selection of activities (Spelling Bingo) to choose from, that will help children to embed and retain each word.

Children will be tested on their spelling words every Thursday and new ones set on a Friday.

Times Tables

Pupils should be practising their times tables every day. They can use TImes Tables Rock Stars as well as activities available in the 'Useful Information and Resources' folder on our Class Page.

Children will be tested on their individual times table every Thursday and need to get full marks two weeks in a row in order to move to the next times table. New times tables, where appropriate, will be allocated on Friday. Children will write the times table they need to practise in their Spellings to Learn book.

Every week, both an English and Maths task will be set on a Friday and must be completed, and returned, by Wednesday. Please let us know if you need a hard copy of any activity sheets and we will send them home with your child.

Some activities are differentiated and there will be a choice of which task to choose. The expectation is that you spend approximately 30 minutes each on your English and Maths homework. If you have not finished after half an hour, then it's okay to stop

Where answers are provided, we would appreciate parental support in checking and marking work.

Each half term there will also be an optional Home Learning Grid, consisting of a variety of research and creative projects.
