Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 9/10: 14th and 21st June 2021

For the last two weeks we have been enjoying our seaside topic. Last Friday the rain did not stop us visiting the beach and going back in time to enjoy the Victorian Pier. We enjoyed taking part in lots of different activities in the morning such as making our train ticket, making shell boxes and souvenir mugs and counting out the money for the afternoon role play activity. We looked at old photographs and old cameras. In the afternoon we visited the pier and had 10d to spend at the pier. We were spoilt for choice and enjoyed visiting the beach and building sandcastles, having ice cream, playing games, visiting the cafe and buying souvenirs. After we had spent all our money we swapped with the other class and enjoyed putting our sale skills to the test and trying to make the most money for our stalls from Yellow class customers. Thank you for the voluntary contribution made via parentpay, the children's wonderful outfits and our amazing parent volunteers.

This week we have been writing about our workshop and thinking more about how the seaside has changed. We looked at transport, clothes and entertainment. We enjoyed watching lots of videos about how things have changed.

In English we looked at Captain Flinn an the Pirate Dinosaurs Smugglers Bay. We enjoyed acting out the story and thinking about the roles of the characters.

In Maths we have been looking at halves and quarters. This has been quite tricky this week and we have enjoyed lots of practical activities to help us understand these concepts.

Next week we will be thinking about writing a story about the beach and finding a mysterious object. In Maths we will be recapping some key athematic skills and beginning to think about our Year 1 memories and talking about moving to Year 2.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend
