Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 9

At the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month, we remembered those who gave their lives so that we could have ours. The children stood to observe 2 minutes silence with a huge sense of respect. Thank you B5.

In their learning this week, the children began the biography unit in English. To begin, they listed to a story written about Mary Anning, a pioneering palaeontologist who discovered a complete fossil of an ichthyosaur when she was just 12 years old. After this, they looked at a biography about Mary Anning and picked out key life events. Following on from this the children used fronted adverbials when writing a paragraph. They needed to consider their vocabulary choices ensuring it was cohesive.

In Maths, the children looked in depth at prime and composite numbers. They have become quick at identifying factors (2 numbers that multiply together) of a number and used this to help them find prime factors. Towards the end of the week the children began to look at mental methods for multiplication and division.

In Science, the class worked in groups to plan an experiment to find out how the earth rotates and orbits the sun. We will return to this experiment when the weather is slightly kinder to us!
