We had a lovely week celebrating Book Week at school. The whole school focused on the author Julia Donaldson and we chose to read the story Superworm. We did lots of activities based around this book.
In the story, Superworm is used for lots of different things including as a fishing line and a skipping rope. The children were encouraged to think of different things that Superworm could be and they wrote sentences about this. WE also designed traps to catch Wizard Lizard and some of the children built these traps using junk modelling materials.
We also introduced a doctor’s surgery in our role play area this week. We began by listing all of the items we would find in a surgery and then we added these during the week. The children also helped to make labels for the role play area. This has been a very popular area in the classroom this week and we have enjoyed taking on roles such as receptionists, patients and doctors.
In PE this half term we will be working on a unit of dance. Our first session was based on ‘Under the Sea’ and the children enjoyed dancing like various sea creatures.
On Thursday the children dressed up as their favourite book characters. We talked about who we had come as and why we had chosen that character. Children brought their favourite books to school and we enjoyed reading them during the day. We also went to a whole school World Book Day assembly that morning we had the chance to show our costumes to the rest of the school in a special parade.
Unfortunately, our trip to the fire station had to be cancelled on Friday. We hope to be able to go on the trip later in the year. We will still continue to learn about people who help us over this half term and we hope to have some visitors coming in to talk to us.
Have a lovely weekend Toucan Class.
