In Maths this week we have been consolidating our learning on prime and composite numbers, learning what common factors are and finding multiples of numbers. We have moved on to our new topic of mental methods for dividing and multiplying and exploring rules of divisibility for the numbers 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. We have then been organising our findings into Carroll diagrams.
In English, we have started our new writing unit: biographies. We learnt all about the life of Mary Anning through reading a biography and a story book about her, Stone Girl,Bone Girl. We have begun to look at using fronted adverbials to create cohesion between sentences and paragraphs.
In Science, we have finished our unit on Earth and Space (for the time being) by planning an experiment to see how day and night works. We will revisit this experiment in the sunny months!
In Art/History we have been creating our own designs for the Parthenon Marbles and next week will be sketching them and the creating them out of clay.
In Guided Reading we have been exploring the opening chapters of 3 classic novels: Around the World in Eighty Days, The Hobbit and The Jungle Book. It was wonderful to compare language used then and now and see how it has changed.
On Wednesday, the children marked the act of remembrance by joining in with the nation for a thoughtful and reflective 2 minute silence. I think that, having learnt about the war the previous week, the children were able to appreciate and understand it all the more. We have displayed the children’s beautiful poetry in the hall.
