Educating Today's Child For Tomorrow

Week 10: 11th November

What a fantastic week!!

Monday we learnt all about Remembrance Day. The children watched two videos for children. One made by Cbeebies showed the atmosphere of war and what happened once the war had finished. The second showed the importance of remembering the people who gave their lives for us. The children made some lovely poppy painting and we wrote their words about why we wear poppies and observe the two minutes silence.

The rest of the week we focused on the story Stick Man. Thank you for collecting some sticks to help us. In writing we looked at retelling the story using the story 'S' structure. The children have been challenged to write initial sounds in their writing and some children did some fantastic sounding out.

In Maths we have looked at length and comparing and ordering different length sticks. The children were using vocabulary such as 'longest' and 'shortest.'

When reading with the children we have been focused on reading CVC words and focusing on pre-reading skills. The children have made so much progress and they were very excited to read words.

Thank you to everyone who came to the Phonics session on Thursday (forgive me for my nerves and the technology). I hope it was helpful and it was a lovely opportunity to see your child at school. I thought they were fantastic and I was super proud of them. Next Wednesday we have our Phonics workshop which will build on this. There will be a sign up sheet outside the door. Please sign up as we need to know how many chairs (and space we need.)

Thank you so much for the parents help on putting on the Film Club. The children loved it and was a lovely opportunity for our children provided by the BFF.

Children in Need was a success and thank you all for your kind donations. The children loved their biscuit decorating. Also thank you for all the kind donations to our class funds. We are excited to share how we use the money to support the children's learning and interests.

Have a lovely weekend
