Week 1: 07.06.21
We have been enjoying the sun lots this week and getting the most out of the sun whilst it's here! We have had lots of children going on holdiays all week in our Airport role play area outside. The children have had to choose their destination and check in before showing their Passports and getting on the plane. Once they were on their flight they could have drinks and food, and of course we had lots of trusty pilots flying the planes and ensuring we arrived nice and safely.
We have also been reading and sorting lots of words. We have been putting the balls with alien words in the bin and keeping the real words.
We have been looking at scultpure this week and we looked at the artist Andy Goldsworthy who creates his sculptures using natural resources. We used this idea to create a class sculpture using items from around the classroom. We decided to make a rainbow. The children were tasked with finding different items from the class to match the colours of the rainbow.
After we created our class sculpture, the children were tasked with creating their own. Just like Andy Goldsworthy the children were going to make their sculptures in an 'Ephemeral' style. This meant they weren't going to stick anything just place their resources in the desired way and then take a picture of it so there sculptures were only there for a short amount of time. Some of the children used resources from inside the classroom like our class rainbow and some children used natural resources like Andy Goldsworthy. The children were also encouraged to take the photos of their sculptures themselves. I think we can all agree that all of the children's sculptures look amazing.
All week our role play area has been being refurbished and today, was also the grand opening of our class cafe. We haven't decided on a name for it yet (I'm sure you're all on the edge of your seats in anticipation). The children have had a lot of fun being chefs, waiters and waitresses and of course the customers. I won't need to eat any dinner tonight after visiting the cafe and eating all day. I must say I feel like a celebrity when I visit, there is only the best service at our class cafe.
