Although not an exhaustive list, hopefully the information below will answer some of your questions and queries.  If there are any questions you would like to ask please do not hesitate in emailing the school at admin@oxhey.herts.sch.uk

School  Meals

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are all automatically entitled to a free school meal, that’s a saving of over £400 a year!  There is a choice of three hot meals every day: a meat option, a vegetarian option and a jacket potato.   I can confirm that the meals are very tasty and I’m in no doubt that you will hear about Cook Jo and her team in no time at all!

It is really important that you inform our caterers directly, (Herts Catering Limited) if you child has a food allergy or food intolerance.  This must be done prior to your child having a school meal, otherwise they will be unable to have a school meal.  More information can be found by following this link: https://hcl.co.uk/allergy-overview

Did you know that you may be able to help increase our school budget?

(Pupil Premium)

The Government is giving money to schools to help children from lower-income families do their very best.  This funding is called ‘Pupil Premium’. If you qualify you can help increase our school budget by £1455.00 per child per year,  simply by registering.  We are asking all our families to complete the form as often families are surprised to learn that they can qualify.

If we find your child is eligible for this additional financial support, your child can also get contributions towards the curriculum, extra-curricular e.g. after-school clubs, and family support that might not otherwise be available to you.

You may be eligible if you are receiving any of the following:

  • Income Support

  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)

  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

  • Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get.

Breakfast club - Topkidz

A company called Topkidz is contracted to provide our school with a breakfast club, this starts at 7.45am and finishes at 8.45am, in time for the start of the school day.  The club is held within the dining room and is available for all children at the infants; from Reception to Year Two.  For more information please contact the owner Dupe on 07549 998435.  Dupe will be able to help you with any queries or questions that you may have.

After-school club

We currently run our own after-school club from Bushey Manor Junior School and is eligible for all children from Reception-Year 6. This starts at the end of the school day where a member of staff walks the children up to the school. They are then provided with snacks and activities. It runs until 6pm Monday-Thursday and until 5:30pm on Friday. When you arrive to pick up your child and they are outside please call this number 07709779154, otherwise ring the doorbell.

You can book after-school club via the school payment system - Arbor. If you need to cancel a session just let the school office know and then your account will have a credit on it to book a further session.

Absences

Recent changes to legislation make it clear that schools may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.  Our current levels for school attendance are very good and our families and parents are really on board with us on this.

If you do need to take your child out of school please request an absence form from the school office or download it from our website to fill in.

If your child is unwell please contact the school by 9:30 am at the latest, either by phone or email and please let us know the type of illness.  If your child has had diarrhoea or sickness please keep them off school for 48 hours after their last bout of illness to ensure they are completely recovered.

Change of pick-up arrangement

We understand that there may be times when there will be a change to the pickup arrangements for your child.  If you know this in advance please email the school office @ admin.oxhey@herts.sch.uk by 3 pm at the latest.

Uniform

We work with two uniform companies, Beat and Mapac, please see below our uniform list and links to our suppliers.

Please remember uniform will get scuffed, discoloured, marked, torn, buttons missing, and LOST.   You must have a healthy perspective on this – ensure everything that you can is labeled, check the lost property, and resign yourself to a few years of getting incredibly frustrated around this!

Please be aware that the ONLY items that are branded and that we will require you to purchase from a dedicated school outfitter are school sweaters/cardigans and PE tops.

Medical

Please let us know if your child has any medical conditions.  If your child has an inhaler or epipen please request a medical form from the school office to fill in.

There will be occasions when your child may require antbitics etc, we would request that where possible these are dispensed to children at home. If your child requires medication more than 3 times a day we will accomodate. No medication can be dispensed unless consent has been given by parents/carers.
